Coraley recently visited my studio in Dinas Powys to celebrate her first birthday with a colourful rainbow-themed cake smash session, and what a fantastic morning it was.
As a Cardiff Cake Smash Photographer, I have the privilege of capturing many first birthday celebrations each year, but every session is completely unique. Coraley’s session was full of personality, laughter, colourful buttercream, and plenty of messy fun from start to finish.
A Beautiful Rainbow Theme for a First Birthday
For her first birthday photoshoot, Coraley’s family chose a vibrant rainbow setup filled with colourful flowers, soft fairy lights, decorative “ONE” lettering, and a whimsical teepee display.
The bright colours worked beautifully together and created the perfect backdrop for a first birthday celebration. Rainbow themes continue to be one of the most popular choices for cake smash photography because they are timeless, cheerful, and suit both boys and girls.

After the cake smash comes one of the most popular parts of the session – bath time.
The splash session is included within the Cakey Chaos package and provides the perfect opportunity to clean up while creating even more adorable photographs.
Many children who are initially cautious around the cake absolutely love the bath. The bubbles, splashes, and water play often result in some of the biggest smiles of the entire session.
Coraley certainly enjoyed this part of the experience, and the splash photographs provided a beautiful ending to her first birthday story.
