Welcome to Shutter Hire. I’m Katrina, a professional newborn photographer based in Dinas Powys, creating soft, natural and timeless newborn portraits for families from Cardiff, Penarth, Barry and the Vale of Glamorgan.
Newborn sessions start from £299 and take place in my warm, fully equipped studio. Everything is prepared for you, including wraps, outfits, props and backdrops, so you can simply arrive, relax and enjoy the experience.
My sessions are baby-led, unhurried and centred around your baby’s comfort and safety. There is always time for feeding, cuddles, changing and settling, so you never need to worry if your baby needs a little extra time.
The best time for newborn photography is usually within the first 5-14 days, when babies are often sleepiest and happiest to be gently posed. I recommend booking while you are still pregnant so I can pencil in your due date and confirm your session once your baby arrives.

Choosing a newborn photographer is about more than beautiful images. You want someone experienced, patient and safe, with a studio environment that feels calm and welcoming for both baby and parents.
Your baby’s comfort always comes first. Every pose and setup is approached gently, with plenty of time for feeding, cuddles and settling.
Wraps, outfits, headbands, props and backdrops are all ready for you, so you do not need to buy anything special for the session.
I create soft, natural newborn portraits designed to look beautiful now and still feel special years from now.
I know booking a newborn session can feel like another thing to organise when you are preparing for a new baby, so I keep the process simple and relaxed.

If you are still pregnant, I reserve space around your due date.
Once baby is here, we confirm the best date for your newborn photoshoot.
Come to the studio, relax, feed baby when needed and let me guide everything.
A £50 booking fee secures your newborn session and is deducted from your chosen collection. The remaining balance is due on or before your session date.
The studio is fully stocked with wraps, headbands, outfits, props and backdrops, with a comfortable area for parents to sit back, feed baby and take a breather while I work. There is also a changing area and drinks available during your session.
Newborn safety is always my priority. I am trained in safe newborn handling and posing, fully insured, and every setup is created with your baby’s comfort and wellbeing in mind.
My approach is calm, gentle and fully guided. You do not need to worry about what to do, what to bring or how your baby will settle. I allow plenty of time and create every setup around your baby, so the whole experience feels relaxed from start to finish.
Your newborn session is one part of your family’s story. Many parents choose to book a maternity photography session before baby arrives, and later return for family portraits or a cake smash photography session as their little one grows.
